Phillip Kim is in his seventh year as the Orchestra Director at Spring Oaks Middle School, where his leadership has seen the program flourish and continue to grow. He received his bachelor's degree in Music from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, where he studied under Kathleen Kemp and Mimi Huang.
Coming from a musical family, Phillip began his musical journey at an early age with piano and cello. His passion for the cello grew while studying with Mr. Artan Zhuri, now a colleague, lifelong friend, and mentor. He enjoyed playing with many youth orchestras, including the Houston Youth Symphony, Virtuosi of Houston, and the Greater Houston Youth Orchestra. These experiences deepened his love for music and set the foundation for his future career.
After graduating from college, Phillip returned to his hometown, Katy, Texas, and dedicated his talent to developing music students. He taught at various private music academies before establishing his now very successful music studio, where he teaches cello and piano to students of all ages. His unwavering support helps bring out the best in his students. In addition to his teaching career, Phillip regularly performs with the Brazosport Symphony and the Korean Lake Church, as well as with various ensembles. He was also a former member of the Fort Bend Symphony.
Outside of his professional life, Phillip has a variety of interests. He enjoys cooking, exercising, playing video games, and traveling, often exploring new destinations with his wife and family.
